Grantchester Charity Runs: A brief history

As the popularity of the Grantchester Charity Runs has grown over the years, here are some of the changes we have made to make the event a more rewarding experience for everyone.

2018

  • Sunday, September 30th 2018
  • New for 2018: Maggie’s Centre Cambridge joins us as designated charity…
  • … along with ACT- Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and their Campaign for a Liver Perfusion Machine
  • Same 10k & 3k courses with no awkward road crossings and more loos
  • The return of the Lunchtime Company and Sports Corrective Therapy Ltd
  • Record turn-out, over 500 online registrants. Record contribution to our two charities, £3000

2017

  • Sunday, October 8th 2017
  • New for 2017: Chip Timing for ALL
  • We welcome back ACT- Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust as designated charity for the 10k…
  • …and EACH, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices as designated charity for the 3k
  • Same Courses with no awkward road crossings
  • The return of Flair Catering, CrossFit RNA and Sports Corrective Therapy Ltd

2016

      Runs and Parking are located on the Trumpington side of Grantchester (see map in sidebar)
      On-Site Registration: 9:00am
      Warm-up with CrossFit RNA: 10:10am
      10k Start: 10:30am
      3k Start: 10:40am
      post Race: Our tradition refreshments of tea, coffee and a sausage or bacon bap!
      Medals for all 10k & 3k finishers
      Presentation of Women’s and Men’s Trophies: Noon
    • We welcome back ACT and our new partner EACH, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices
    • Same Courses with no awkward road crossings
    • Revamped race timing and the return of Flair Catering and CrossFit RNA
    • We welcome new supporter: Sports Corrective Therapy Ltd

2015

    • Better, flatter 10k & 3k Courses eliminating road crossings
    • Start by Dame Mary Archer, Warm-up by CrossFit RNA, Renewed partnership with ACT

2014

    • Partnered with the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT)
    • Start by Lottie Booth from Star 107FM

2013

    • Partnered with the Healing Hearts Campaign raising funds for a new cardio vascular scanner for babies and children at Addenbrooke’s

2012

    • Partnered with the Big Push for the Rosie Hospital at Addenbrooke’s
    • Start by Dame Mary Archer, Chair: Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

2011

  • Starts outside the Blue Ball Inn in Grantchester
